Charlie, Greenwich Village 2008
When we’re in Manhattan we always pass by the Back Fence for a drink. On this occasion, one drink turns into a few and before we realized it, a few hours pass. It must be those damn free peanuts they offer. The Back Fence is the type of bar where you can just hang out and just talk to Charlie and all the locals who hang out there. The bar has been in this location since 1945 and you can tell. It’s one of the endearing things about it as it has so much character. I love these old bars. I have more of the locals we met to come.

This is a wonderful picture of goodtime Charlie, who just passed away yesterday, Jan. 4, 2010. He was a sweet, sweet man, and I will miss him immensely. He’s gone too soon. Fortunately, The Back Fence is still there and still just as endearing.
